ABOUT

History

Friends of Photography was founded in 1991 by Tom Hinson, CMA's longstanding Curator of Photography. Since its inception, FOP has sponsored dozens of talks by nationally recognized artists including Amy Arbus, Larry Fink, Frank Gohlke, Lauren Greenfield and Sally Mann. The group has also arranged annual presentations by leading photography dealers including Bonni Benrubi, Catherine Edelman, Peter McGill, Robert Mann and Larry Miller. FOP has introduced its members to leading curators and critics such as John Szarkowski, Peter Galassi and Rod Slemmons. It has sponsored trips to numerous venues including the AIPAD photo dealers show, New York's Modern Museum of Art, the Columbus Museum of Art and the George Eastman House in Rochester, New York. Each year, Friends of Photography has also purchased prints for the Museum's permanent collection. These gifts now total nearly one hundred works by both locally and nationally recognized photographers.
